Why is oxygen prescribed?
Oxygen therapy is prescribed to raise the oxygen levels in your blood to normal levels. Oxygen therapy will reduce stress on your heart and lungs and improve your quality of life.
The oxygen level in your blood can be measured using a small finger or ear device called an oximeter. This measurement is called oximetry. It is painless. Another method is to take blood from an artery in your wrist. This is called a BLOOD GAS analysis and is done in a hospital.
